Climb personal mountains and develop heuristics in less than a minute.

Word count: 197

heuristics are mental shortcuts or rules of thumb that people use to make quick judgments and decisions.

I came across a podcast snipped by Michael Easter writer of the Comfort Crisis. I haven’t read it, the but synopsis looks good (and I believe to be true), that we are in a comfort crisis.

Gluttony, traditionally associated with food, is all around us. It’s too easy to do nothing a scroll like a zombie.

Discomfort is what creates innovation, new ideas and products. Discomfort gives purpose.

My husband and I have now bought 3 houses. And in the first two, once we had “finished” them or done all we could to “perfect” them, we got bored. There was purpose, excitement and drive to do something when we first get the houses. Fixing them up, and making sure they are safe, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

I could literally walk you through us reaching the peak of Maslow’s Hierarchy for each home, only to get to get bored when it’s all done.

I think everything is connected, and this follows along the same lines as dopamine overdosing of late, where everything is too easy and the best hits come from personal effort (working out, learning a new skill, climbing a literal mountain). Not sugar or instagram reels.
